Listen to the online radio of RTÉ Radio 1 Extra live, which is the digitally distributed sister station of RTÉ Radio 1. It was launched in 2008 as RTÉ Choice and adopted its current name in 2013. RTÉ Radio 1 Extra is owned by Raidió Teilifís Éireann, Ireland’s National Public Service Broadcaster. The radio station's programme structure is an intellectually oriented extension of its parent station's broadcasts. Consequently, it features less music and more talk in its schedule. Rather than light-hearted banter, the primary focus of the service, as it presents itself with the tagline Quality speech from Home and Abroad, is to broadcast in-depth conversations, debates, and speeches on real topics and issues relevant to Ireland and the world. The content encompasses discussions on the past, present, and future, covering areas such as history, politics, documentaries, the environment, business, technology, sports, arts, religion, and much more, providing a broad perspective. In its pursuit of being open-minded, RTE Radio Extra not only features talk programmes from Ireland but also from international broadcasters such as the BBC (UK), NPR (USA), and Deutsche Welle (Germany).
